Procedure Payments for the Uninsured
Instructions:
To obtain a charge estimate for a procedure performed
at various locations in Maine, fill in the form below.
Caveats:
The dollar amount that an uninsured individual is expected to
pay may be less than the median charge presented
for a specific procedure at a specific health care facility.
Factors influencing the price are as follows:
-
If it is determined that an individual's income is
less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level,
Maine law requires that facilities provide free
care for their services. In addition, most Maine
hospitals have voluntarily increased their free
care coverage level beyond 150%. The specific
percentage for each Maine hospital is listed at
the Maine Hospital Association's website (link).
-
Some hospitals offer sliding scale discounts
above their free care coverage levels.
-
Some hospitals are willing to negotiate
payment plans and/or payments below charges
for those individuals who neither qualify for
free care or a sliding scale discount.
To learn how one qualifies for free care,
or if other policies or programs exist to reduce
the dollar amount charged to an uninsured
individual, please contact the facility directly.
These reports are produced using the latest medical
claims data available at MHDO (data range is indicated
on each report). Hospital's that do not have enough
statistically significant data are not shown. For more
